Understanding Stock Tracking
By default, StoreYug enables Stock Tracking on every new product variant you create. However, not every product sold in an online store is a physical item with a limited warehouse count.
The Track Inventory toggle allows you to choose whether a variant has a strict unit limit or is always available to order.
Tracked vs. Untracked Comparison
| Setting | Storefront Behavior | Best Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Track Inventory: ON (Default) |
Orders automatically deduct units. When stock reaches 0, the catalog displays "Out of Stock" and blocks new orders. | Physical retail merchandise: apparel, electronics, packaged food, cosmetics, footwear. |
| Track Inventory: OFF (Unlimited) |
No quantities are tracked. The product displays as "In Stock / Unlimited" and can always be purchased. | Digital products (PDFs, downloads), services (tailoring, consultations, repairs), and made-to-order custom goods. |
How to Toggle Stock Tracking
- Go to Inventory and open your product.
- Click the Settings button (gear icon) on the variant you want to modify.
- Toggle the Switch: Turn Enable Stock Tracking ON to track exact physical quantities and prevent overselling, or turn it OFF if this item is a service, digital download, or custom made-to-order item.
- Click Save Settings.
💡 Good to Know: Disabling stock tracking does not delete your previous stock history ledger. If you later decide to track physical units again, simply re-enable the switch and add your counted stock.
